Ingredient Glossary

Each of our ingredients has a long history of use as part of a healthful diet and lifestyle. This is a brief overview of our current ingredients.*

 

 

Apple cider vinegar is our #1 ingredient. Unpasteurized ACV is prebiotic-rich and highly alkalizing, and has been documented to have digestive, anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting qualities and is the base ingredient of fire cider and other potent wellness tonics.

Raw, organic, unfiltered ACV is the base of all of our Fire Ciders & Earth Cider, and features prominantly in our Oxymel line.

 

Raw, Unfiltered Honey is ur second most used ingredient, raw honey is especially dear to our hearts as passionate beekeepers. We use Grade A Raw Honey produced by locally family owned apiaries. Unprocessed raw honey is a potent antibacterial and antioxidant and also functions as an antihistamine, alleviating allergic reactions against certain pollens. Raw Honey adds sweetness as well as a whole host of delicate aromatics that create a rich complex flavor profile.

Raw, unfiltered honey is the base of our Oxymel line and features prominantly in our Maple Honey Fire Cider, and less prominantly in our Reaper Fire Cider

 

Elderberry has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral properties, but is best known as a powerful immune stimulant particularly useful to stave off or alleviate symptoms of colds, the flu, and other respiratory ailments. Elderberry extract helps cell walls rebound cold and flu viruses and boosts innate immune function, hence its wide use during cold and flu season.

Organic elderberry is the primary ingredient in our Elderberry Oxymel Raw Honey Tonic.

 

Turmeric Root has shown promise as an anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-cancer agent in medical research, suggesting that it helps fight pathogens in the body. It’s also been shown to help stimulate digestion and circulation, balance blood sugar, soothe irritated tissue and stiff joints, and lower cholesterol.

Ginger contains compounds that work in the brain, nervous system and digestive tract and that are thought to help with stomach and digestion problems, inflammation and nausea, blood circulation and detoxification. It’s also an antimicrobial and antioxidant with a sweet, pungent, warming taste and aroma.

Horseradish has been found to have antimicrobial properties, according to medical experts. It’s also an expectorant, meaning that it helps the body release mucus, and has diuretic qualities, meaning that it helps rid the body of water weight.

Garlic, in its raw form, is believed to be anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, expectorant and detoxifying, as well as good for high blood pressure and fever. It is spicy and pungent.

Onion is packed with anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial compounds. It has also been found to help with digestion and decrease cholesterol.

Dandelion Root is most widely known for its detoxifying properties, especially for the liver. It is traditionally used to treat appetite loss, upset stomach, intestinal gas, gallstones, joint pain, muscle aches, eczema, and bruises. Dandelion is also used to increase urine production and as a laxative to increase bowel movements. It is also used as skin toner, blood tonic, and digestive tonic.

Organic dandelion root is the primary ingredient in our Dandelion Burdock Earth Cider

 

Burdock Root has traditionally been used as a diuretic and digestive aid and is also a powerhouse of antioxidants. It is also-inflammatory and has also been used as a potent detoxifier and as an aphrodisiac. It has a very pleasant woodsy flavor.

Chicory Root is perhaps most well known as a tasty coffee substitute for those who might be trying to kick the caffeine. But there's much more to this wildly growing root than a gentler cuppa joe. Studies suggest this potent root is packed with anti-inflammatory properties and may aid in both digestion and regulation of blood sugar.

Rosemary has been known for bringing freshly oxygenated blood to the peripheral arteries in the head as it has been used to improve and strengthen memory throughout history. Rosemary is also known for its circulatory action, which supports the lymph and other lymphatic herbs, when coupled together. It is also a great digestive herb, with bitter principles; by stimulating the production of bile and aiding the breakdown of fat, it benefits our entire digestive system.

Rose Hips have been used for thousands of years to help treat a variety of ailments. The medicinal benefit Rose hips are best known for is their high levels of vitamin C (a handful of rose hips contain the same amount of vitamin C as sixty oranges!) In addition, the vitamin C enhances the integrity of connective tissue and reduces inflammation. Rose hips also contain flavonoids, a compound that plays a key role in this plant’s medicinal abilities. The flavonoid and vitamin C together support the immune system and counter the stress response in the body. Flavonoids also make the vitamin C content more effective.

Lemon is highly alkalizing, helping to bring the body's pH into a more immune state. Lemons are thought to improve digestion and skin health and the citric acid can prevent kidney stones.

Orange Peel is a nutrient powerhouse containing essential vitamins and minerals, contending with its juicy interior for wellness benefits. Packed with vitamin C, vitamin A, and fiber, incorporating orange peel into your diet can give your immune system a boost and support digestive health.

Cayenne Pepper stands out not just for its fiery flavor but also for its impressive array of wellness benefits. This vibrant spice, derived from the Capsicum annuum family of peppers, has been a staple in various cuisines for centuries. It is particularly known for stimulating the circulatory system, helping prevent blood clotting and stimulating the release of endorphins, which helps with pain relief. It is also known as an anti-inflammatory ally and digestive aid.

Organic Cayenne Pepper is featured in all of our Fire Ciders and our Sweet Fire Oxymel Syrup

 

Carolina Reaper Pepper is best described as a cross between habanero and ghost peppers and is among the hottest peppers in the world. That spiciness is attributed to capsaicin, which has been thought to increase metabolism, aid digestion, curb hunger, relieve pain and help with psoriasis. Not only is it very spicy, it is almost extremely flavorful.

Organic carolina reaper pepper is the flagship ingredient in our Reaper Fire Cider, a favorite with the spice fanatics!

 

Black Pepper is used to relieve sinuses, aid in weight loss, relieve upset stomach and improve digestion and is thought to have anti-bacterial properties. It also increases bio-availability of other herbs and compounds, such as curcumin in turmeric. Unlike Cayenne and Carolina Reaper peppers, black peppercorns contain no capsaicin and are much lower in heat content.

Black Pepper is featured in all of our Fire Ciders (Unsweetened, Maple Honey & Carolina Reaper), our Sweet Fire Oxymel, as well as our Dandelion Burdock Earth Cider to activate the curcumin in turmeric, as an alternative to the spicier peppers. 

 

Cinnamon is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory and studies have shown that it increases insulin sensitivity, which has potential anti-diabetic benefits. It also adds a unique sweet flavor without any actual sugar.

Premium Organic Ceylon Cinnamon is featured prominantly in our Elderberry Oxymel Raw Honey Tonic.

 

Cloves have been used for centuries in traditional medicine and culinary practices. They are a concentrated source of essential nutrients, including manganese, vitamin K, vitamin C and dietary fiber, which play crucial roles in maintaining overall health, and are particularly known for their immune-boosting, digestive and anti-inflammatory properties.

Maple Syrup is rich in antioxidants and newer research suggests it may regulate the breakdown of carbohydrates in the body, which equates to less of a sugar spike. The taste of maple syrup rounds out the fiery nature of other fire cider ingredients and adds a mellow quality.
