ROSEHIPS

Rose hips have been used for thousands of years to help treat a variety of ailments. The medicinal benefit Rose hips are best known for is their high levels of vitamin C (a handful of rose hips contain the same amount of vitamin C as sixty oranges!) In addition, the vitamin C enhances the integrity of connective tissue and reduces inflammation. Rose hips also contain flavonoids, a compound that plays a key role in this plant’s medicinal abilities. The flavonoid and vitamin C together support the immune system and counter the stress response in the body. Flavonoids also make the vitamin C content more effective.

CAROLINA REAPER PEPPER - a cross between habanero and ghost peppers - is among the hottest peppers in the world. That spiciness is attributed to capsaicin, which has been thought to increase metabolism, aid digestion, curb hunger, relieve pain and help with psoriasis. Not only is it very spicy, it is almost extremely flavorful.

Organic Carolina Reaper Pepper is the flagship ingredient in our Reaper Fire Cider, a favorite with the spice fanatics!

BLACK PEPPER is used to relieve sinuses, aid in weight loss, relieve upset stomach and improve digestion and is thought to have anti-bacterial properties. It also increases bio-availability of other herbs and compounds, such as curcumin in turmeric. Unlike Cayenne and Carolina Reaper peppers, black peppercorns contain no capsaicin and are much lower in heat content.

Black Pepper is featured in our Dandelion Burdock Earth Cider to activate the curcumin in turmeric, as an alternative to the spicier peppers.

Cinnamon is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory and studies have shown that it increases insulin sensitivity, which has potential anti-diabetic benefits. It also adds a unique sweet flavor without any actual sugar.

Organic Ceylon Cinnamon is featured prominantly in our Elderberry Oxymel Raw Honey Tonic.

MAPLE SYRUP is rich in antioxidants and newer research suggests it may regulate the breakdown of carbohydrates in the body, which equates to less of a sugar spike. The taste of maple syrup rounds out the fiery nature of other fire cider ingredients and adds a mellow quality.
